Making it .......... all work ..........
|

After unloading, we moved all of the old equipment into an adjoining room to be sorted and tested, cleaned like mad, and began setting up the five systems we took. Most of the computers that were there were far too old to be of any use, although there was one P-3 which we hooked up to the network, and another printer and a P-2 computer which we plan on configuring as a print server on our next visit. |

| The next day was spent fine-tuning the network and getting the five computers we brought to talk to the three that we managed to get working there. |

We then set to work with instructions for Carlos that included troubleshooting and system backup stuff, as well as an overview of the programs and peripherals we included with the donation. The young man in red in the photos is named Daniel and he has had previous experience with computers and was most enthusiastic to learn these systems and tutor the kids. And speaking of kids: most have never touched a computer before (all but 1), but with the barest of instruction, they were exploring the computers like pros. It was very exciting to see the kids take to them like water! Everything we hoped for when we envisioned GWoB came true and more! We left satisfied that the computers would be of great use and will go back to check up on them later in the year. |

These ladies showed up and offered to help with the home's electrical system, which is a nightmare but might not be as bad as it seems according to Annie (that's Helen on the right). I hope she's right because that will mean the computers will be available for use all summer despite the heat. The home currently can't run the AC and computers at the same time , and while we're looking into solutions for them, this would be a giant help! |
